My Love Hate Relationship with Pinterest...

Oh Pinterest...

Truly I love Pinterest! I can get lost for hours creating new boards, visualizing new color palettes, seeing insanely extravagant design concepts, or just figuring out what I’m going to eat for dinner. Pinterest just has a way of getting the wheels in my head turning!

Overall, it is an amazing source of inspiration! Pinterest is a great place to ask questions, search for ideas, and a great place to make your head start spinning (not in a good way)! It is an amazing tool but you wouldn't just take the WebMD diagnosis of why you have a head ache as having a brain tumor instead of going to a doctor to get checked out. Weird analogy, but this is why it is so important to take the things on Pinterest with a grain of salt and talk to your trusted team of professionals! Here are a few downfalls of the website we love so very much…sometimes…

It Can Cause You to Rethink Your Whole Theme: The wedding planning process often takes a long long time! In the one year (sometimes more) of wedding planning you may change your mind on the things you want. Changing your mind is totally fine, but browsing Pinterest can make you rethink everything. All weddings are beautiful, so seeing another style of wedding and loving it is normal, but don’t let that change your mind on your personal vision for your big day!

It Can Make You Question What You Really Like: There are so many wedding trends that have come and gone. For a while it was big 80s hair and poofy dresses, all white church weddings, and all the lace and burlap. Now there is macrame, moody photos, and tropical themes. So the question is, do you like these things because you truly like them or because they are trendy right now? Just because something is trendy and cool doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to look back on your wedding in 20 years and still love. Root your wedding in the things that are authentically YOU so you don’t look back on your wedding and laugh one day

The Pricing of Things Are Not Shown: I sometimes have brides come to me with a floral arch that would easily cost 10K on its own but their total floral budget is 5K! Just because something is beautiful doesn't mean it fits in your budget, which can disappoints clients a lot of the time. Meet with a florist in real life! You can always show them your inspiration and ask them how much things cost and how we can change things in order to fit your wedding and your budget!

I know I just talked a lot of shit about Pinterest, but it really is a love hate relationship. All I can say is trust yourself, trust your team, and use Pinterest as a guide not a bible! Let us help you make your day Pinterest Worthy and book us for full service wedding planning where design is included!

Terri & Mike Intimate Botanic Gardens Wedding

This lovely couple was one of our day of coordination clients! They fell in love late in life and wanted to have some of their closest friends and family present to celebrate their beautiful marriage. The two of them had a love for Asian Art and Culture and wanted to incorporate that as much as possible into their day! They did this by using asian inspired florals, serving some asian eats, and giving out little red good luck boxes to their guests as favors. I love that Terri said nah to a traditional white dress and went with this STUNNING black and blue floral gown for her ceremony. My favorite part of their day was that they incorporated tarot card readers into the garden reception. The ladies had a line of interested guests the whole night (me included!) I'll be suggesting that to all of my spiritual brides to come!

Bruch Babes at Hotel Teatro for Rocky Mountain Bride

When Rocky Mountain Bride reached out to ME to design a styled bridal luncheon I seriously felt like I was dreaming. I met one of the sweet editors Taylor at Hotel Teatro which would be the site for our shoot. I had never been there before but was blown away by the space! The space had a giant navy blue book case (that was beautifully styled on its own) that covered the whole back wall. There were thick padded leather couches and heavy dark wood tables that gave off an overall masculine vibe. I was asked to make the space fitting for a group of girls to hangout in and was given free reign over who I could pick for my vendor team! Like whatttt?

So I decided to go with peaches, pinks, ivory, and navy as the color palette! I wanted wild, non traditional floral arrangements not only for the table scape but also for the mantle and holes in the bookcase. Obviously Yonder House was my first choice for rentals and they absolutely killed it! They even let us be the first to use their unreal Breckenridge Lounge. The table was set and complete with leather menus created by my favorite girl Handsome Love Calligraphy! Our beautiful models were a real life bride and bridal party so it made it easy and fun for the ladies to be themselves and spend the day together! Overall, I wanted the whole day to be dripping in champagne and my dreams really came to life for this perfect perfect day!

This was my original mood board that I designed for the shoot, I'd say we kind of nailed it:

I am still in just a bit of shock that my designs are in a printed magazine somewhere where people can hold it and see it and flip the pages. It is just amazing to me! So thank you so much to everyone that make this all possible! I very literally couldn't have done it without you!

Urban Downtown Denver Anniversary Styled Shoot

Urban Downtown Denver Anniversary Styled Shoot

Our Urban Downtown Denver Anniversary Styled Shoot was featured on Junebug weddings!

August and Tanisha have been married for a few years now. Instead of doing a styled engagement shoot with two people that were already married we wanted to give this real life couple an anniversary photoshoot. For this shoot Megan and I wanted to channel a worldly vibe. This is a strong African American couple and we wanted that to shine through in its own effortless beauty. We set up on the rooftop of Studio LoHi in Downtown Denver (Thanks for the location Logan!). For styling we picked oranges, yellows, whites, and blue tones! We set up a sweet little table perfect for an anniversary dinner. Complete with a natural dyed cotton gauze table runner, tiny globes, and a painted glass menu. We also set up a little lounge where the couple could enjoy some wine and hangout.

Before the shoot we had Tanisha and August write a handwritten note to each other to read out loud during the shoot. We had our calligrapher Abby Co Design write out these letters in her stunning calligraphy. Things got a little emotional when they read their letters to one another and it was so special! We ended the shoot with Tanisha and August dancing with the Colorado sunset putting on quite a show!

What To Wear To Your Engagement Shoot

What To Wear To Your Engagement Shoot

What should you wear to your engagement shoot?

Well we are giving you some of our favorite tips and tricks on what to do, wear, and bring...

Location, Location, Location: Location is key when deciding what to wear to your engagement shoot! Your location will set the vibe for the photos. Places like the mountains, the city, your guys favorite local bar, an amusement park, the beach, in a car, or an open field are great places to start! Tie your location together by having your outfit match the setting. If your playing in the snow wear a coat, hat, and gloves. If you are walking through the city, wear what you would wear for a night on the town! Set the scene and create a cohesive look!

Show It Off: Yassss girl! Show of your best physical attributes! If you have great legs wear a short skirt or dress (nude heels are great for elongating the leg as well). If you have a booty where a tight pencil skirt or skinny jeans to flaunt your shape. Love yourself, be kind to yourself, and let your body shine!

Don't Be Afraid of Color: Y'all know Im a sucker for black and white, but when it comes to your engagement shoot don't be afraid of a little color. Think of colors that look really good on your partner or what might make your eyes pop. Even tie in your wedding colors to set the scene for your big day!

Set The Vibe for your Wedding Day: Channel the theme of your wedding day in your engagement shoot! If you are planning a rustic wedding or a black tie affair dress the part to set the mood for your big day! If your wedding has a tropical vibe, take your photos in a mid mod tiki lounge or  in your swimsuit! This is your chance to have some fun with theme!

Be Yourself: Don't put on a front for the photos! It wont be worth it in the end! If you don't wear heels in real life, don't wear them to your engagement shoot (this is coming from a sneaker girl at heart!). You want to be comfortable and carefree.

Coordinate With Your Partner: I am not saying you guys have to match from head to toe, but a well coordinated outfit will help you slay your shoot! Wear clothes of the same color in different shades or make sure your overall vibe is cohesive. Don't have your guy in jeans and a tee shirt when your wearing a ballgown...You catch my drift!

Flowy Isn't Always The Answer: Loose and flowy clothes can often make you look larger than you are and no one wants that. If you want to wear a flowy shirt sinch it with a belt or make sure a flowing skirt is blowing in the wind.

Props: This is where you can really go big! Sunglasses, balloons, a lounge set up, beers, a bouquet, or a bottle of champagne. Show off your personalities and the things you like as a couple by adding props to your engagement shoot. This will make your shoot fun and different than anyone else! Also nothing like a little booze to loosen you up!

Make It Fun, Not Serious!: You don't want to look back on your engagement photos and think "well that was awkward"! Choose a photographer that you vibe with and want to spend these intimate moments with! Have fun with your partner and enjoy your ENGAGEMENT! This time is so special! Don't take it for granted and have the best time!
