How to Balance Business and a Personal Life by an Entrepreneur That's Trying Their Best

How to Balance Business and a Personal Life by an Entrepreneur That's Trying Their Best

Any Day Can Be a Weekend: During wedding season I make Mondays a “weekend"! I am usually working Friday and Saturday and even sometimes taking meetings on Sundays to work with our clients busy schedules. Since it’s rare that I get a real weekend I give myself Monday to get my life together and do basic things like grocery shopping and Laundry. In the Winter I sometimes take a day in the middle of the week to get myself out of the house and doing something that gives me life. When you make your own schedule any day can be a weekend.

Schedule Time to be Social: If it’s not on your calendar it wont happen. Treat seeing your friends and family like a business meeting and put it on the calendar! If you don’t you might never leave your house. Like ever. I try to schedule meeting friends for drinks of taking family time a few times a month so I make it a priority in my schedule! Same goes for if you have a significant other. Make some rules with yourself that will make your partner feel important. Things like getting off your phone when your person gets home, eating dinner together (No Phones!), and scheduling date nights!

The FOMO Will Happen: Working for yourself and not having a typical 9-5 job means you will miss out on things. You’ll watch your friends weekend Instagram stories and wonder why you do what you do. It is okay to feel that way sometimes, but remind yourself why you selected this life for yourself.

Give Yourself Grace: If you need to take an extended break or vacation listen to your body and do that. We put so much pressure on ourselves as entrepreneurs to always be busy but that isn’t healthy. Staying up late, working long hours, and having hustle are all part of the gig but people need rest and sleep. Be kind to yourself y’all! This is the life you wanted. Relish in it!

Work to Live, Don't Live to Work: I cannot preach this enough! We were not put on this planet to work! We were put on this planet to experience life, places, people, art, food, and everything else this world has to offer! Being an entrepreneur is meant to give you the freedom most people will never get to live their best lives and their big ass dreams!

Like I said I am just a chick trying her best to figure out this whole work life balance thing! Its not easy and is obviously an ever changing thing! Don’t feel like you need to master this because I don’t think any entrepreneur truly has it figured out but hey heres a start! Before we know if wedding season will be over and we will be forced to dig into what makes us, us again!

To start out this little blog I will say that we do not do Day of Coordination at Promise Event Planners. Being in this business for 6 years, I don’t believe that Day Of Coordination is a comprehensive enough package! I would never want to not have enough information to do my job or have anything fall through the cracks on the biggest day of your life all because of a short planning period. Because planning a wedding is so much more than just day of, we have our Month Of Package! Month of Coordination is a complete lifesaver for a bride and her family and any bride that has used a professional coordinator will tell you it is the best money they have ever spent! Our Month Of Coordination Package allows you to do a majority of the planning yourself, but have a stress free wedding day with the help of me and my team. Here is what is included in our Month of Coordination Package!

  • We will set up a meeting with you and your fiancé to discuss your wedding, all the details & your needs.

  • Creation of a detailed timeline for the day of the wedding - Our 10 page bible for your day

  • We will be the main point of contact for all of your vendors prior to the wedding and on the day

  • We will handle management of deliveries and set up

  • We set up & tear down your personal items (you know the things that make your wedding you!) at the ceremony and reception site according to your instruction

The Different Types of Wedding Planners

The Different Types of Wedding Planners

It’s funny how often I get the questions “So what exactly do you do”? I am a Full Service Wedding Planner so I do a heck of a lot of things but not all wedding planners are created equal. Here is a little break down of the different types of wedding planners and a general description of their jobs!

Full Service Wedding Planner: To give you the long and short it is a Full Service Coordinators job to handle all things wedding for their couples. Our Full Service Package includes: Designing the look and feel of your wedding, Hotel accommodations & room block set up, Budget management & tracking of payments, Contract review of all vendor contracts, RSVP tracking & management, Coordination of all vendors & rentals, Unlimited consultation, emails, & phone correspondence, Attendance at all necessary vendor meetings, the final walkthrough & ceremony rehearsal, Creation of a detailed timeline for the day of the wedding and obviously day of coordination and assistance the entire day of the wedding. This is just a quick description but we truly do so much more. If you have a budget where you can spring for a Full Service Coordinator you will NOT regret it! We will save you money and time on the tedious things you would hate doing.

Month Of Coordinator: This is the type of planner that will step in one month from the wedding. This type of planner will step in at your final walk through and ask all of the tough questions you may never have thought to ask. With our Month Of Coordination package we are in correspondence with our brides through the whole process and are always here to answer questions or recommend vendors.

Day Of Coordinator: A Day of Coordinator is someone who steps in only on the day of the wedding to make sure that the day goes smoothly and that the day continues moving forward. They are supposed to know all the details and make sure the couples needs are met! We don’t offer this service because we don’t believe that its enough, so our Month Of Coordination package is our version!

Venue Coordinator: It is the Venue Coordinators job to make sure the venue is taken care of! Most venues come with this service but it is not their job to create your timeline, set up and tear down personal items, or coordinate deliveries and other vendors. There are times when this may seem like a comprehensive service when signing a contract with the venue but often this is something that will let brides down in the end. Don’t be disappointed and hire a Day Of or Month Of Coordinator to assist you in planning those details that aren’t just about the venue!

Planning a wedding is hard work but we are pretty damn good at is! Let Promise Event Planners create the best day of your life. You wont regret spending money on the extra help!

Anna & Jordan's American Beauty Ralph Lauren Inspired Wedding

I love a bride that comes at me with a full force vision! The first time I chatted with this San Fransisco darling she said she was going for Ralph Lauren meets American Beauty meets the Colorado mountains. She wanted big red roses, leather, and country ruggedness with touches of softness (See the tumbleweed tent installation when you scroll down through the amazing photos by Sara Lynn Photography). Anna and Jordan were married at Keystone Ranch Golf Course Last September! They had a first look that was too sweet for words and full of tears from everyone involved, especially the groom (and me)!

Enough of my blabbing check out all these amazing photos!

How to Select A Wedding Planner

How to Select A Wedding Planner

So you have a wedding to plan, who are you going to let plan the best day of your life? Picking your wedding planner is the big first step in your planning process and it is so so important. Here are the ways we think you should pick your go to girl for the job!

Do You Have a Connection?: Did you guys click? This person is going to be your very best friend for the next year, so it is important that you like them as a person! Do they seem positive, trustworthy, share your same sense of humor, and have similar taste as you? I am a huge vibes person and I think you can tell very early on whether there is a connection between two people or not! This is so necessary when selecting YOUR Wedding Planner.

Have You Seen Some of Their Past Events? Did you LOVE them or were they not really your style? This is critical! Seeing your planners past events is a portfolio of what they have created and what are capable of! Planners often have specialties as well! Like Promise Event Planners style is modern and non traditional. If country rustic is your style we may not be a perfect fit! Which is okay! Checking out styled shoots from your wedding planner is another way to really see their design style shine. When planners are planning a styled shoot they are usually thinking out of the box and that’s what you really want to see!

Do They Have Strong Vendor Relationships? Do they network with wedding professionals often? Do they have close vendor friends? Do they have solid relationships that could potentially save you time and money? If the answer is yes then this is a definite plus for you! If your wedding planner has strong relationships within the industry they will be able to match you as the client with your perfect vendor! It is our job as planners to do our research and know the vendors who are the best of the best! This will save you lots of research time and potentially money along the way!

How Do They Like to Communicate? If you like to Communicate via Phone and Your Planner prefers in person meetings or emails it may not be the perfect fit. If you don’t communicate in the same ways it may mess up response times and make things take longer than they should. That is never fun, especially not during the crunch time of planning a wedding!

Can They Answer Your Questions? Answering all of your wedding related questions should be part of your planners expertise in the industry. I mean we are only people and don’t know EVERYTHING there is to know but your planner should be ready and willing to answer any questions you may have. One of my favorite answers is “I’m not sure about that, but let me figure it out!

Do You Like Their Personal Style? Personal style is a big part of the overall style of the planner and the events that they produce! Did they show up in an outfit that was professional but still them? Did you love their snakeskin boots? Do they shop in the stores you like? Most planners are versatile and can create amazing design that may not exactly match their personal style, but it can tell you a lot about your planners style when it comes to design!

Do you feel comfortable with the next steps? The timeline and process of wedding planning can be super confusing! Did they explain next steps and how things would go along the way? Do you feel comfortable with this or like you are still in the dark? It is always a good idea to ask your planner next steps and exactly how this long process will go month to month and week to week!

We know how important choosing your wedding planner is and we hope this helped you! Do we seem like a perfect fit? We would absolutely love to meet you! Schedule your free consultation with us today!
