Chelsea & Jake's Boho Chic Fall Wedding at Barn at Raccoon Creek

Chelsea and Jake were married at The Barn at Raccoon Creek in October! After a mid October blizzard we were a little concerned we wouldn’t get the dream fall wedding we wanted but the Colorado sun came out and gave us a perfect day! I have known Chelsea since I started as a freshman at CU (where she met her hubs) and we became sorority sisters! Our paths crossed again after graduation when Chelsea and Jake ended up living right next door to me in me and Tommy’s first apartment! So crazy! When it came to planning her wedding our design inspiration was Chelseas love for Macrame and all things bohemian. She wanted to use warm, comfortable colors like burgundy, navy, and mixed metals to compliment the fall colors of October! Boho Chic was the main goal in everything we created and I was so incredibly happy with the result! The day started with hair and make up in the large bridal suite at The Barn at Raccoon Creek! When everyone was finished the Bride slipped into her Klienfeld gown. The brides sisters slipped into their bridesmaids dresses created by the brides mother that is a fashion designer. Then the couple had their first look. This was a perfect scene full of all the fall colors and lots of dreamy yellow leaves. The couple had a jewish ceremony complete with a completely decked out chuppah with florals by Beet and Yarrow and the macrame backdrop designed by the brides friend! It was the perfect backdrop to tie in the bohemian element into the ceremony! One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was when the whole family came up to the couple and wrapped them in a prayer shawl to bless their marriage and life together! And my favorite part of all Jewish ceremonies, the smashing of the glass which Danna Frost caught photos of in perfect time! After the ceremony, guests headed to the lawn for cocktail hour. The space was decked out in string lights and had cozy lounge seating provided by Max and Livie. The couple added a few of their own furniture pieces and pillows to the lounge to make it extra homey! Guests found their seats on the wooden sign designed by Handsome Love Calligraphy, another place we tied in the macrame detail! The couple opted for a cookie bar with cookies by Ruby Jean Patisserie instead of serving traditional wedding cake. The cookies also served as a favor for people to take home on their way out the door! Everyone danced the night away under the stars! The groom even brought his own dance floor props that really ended the night with a bang. I am so obsessed with this wedding and this couple and I am so happy they trusted me to plan their special day! Let’s have another party real soon! Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Sundling!

Wow!!! Words can’t express what an amazing job Promise Event Planners did. From venue searching, to coordinating and communicating with vendors to day of coordinating, Payton did it all! Wedding planning can obviously be a stressful time but Payton made us feel calm the entire time! She made our vision a reality and even though the magical day is over, she is still making sure all loose ends are tied up! Thank you Promise Event Planners, can we do it again!?

Payton Bernstine is the Payton Manning of Wedding Planners. She was the MVP of our daughter's wedding and at all times put in a performance worthy of the Super Bowl! Our daughter lives in Denver and we live in Los Angeles. Payton was always there for us, with timely answers, and great suggestion. She stood by us every step of the way and made sure everything went off without a hitch. Kept us on budget and tracked down all the necessary items to personalize the event. She had no problems coordinating with the Venue, which she patiently helped us find on a weekend. Payton service was so good, frankly, we felt as if we were her only client. The end result was the wedding was a smashing success.

Welllll our 2019 wedding season was one for the books! To wrap up our best year yet, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite details from this years wedding!

A Custom Jacket: Bridal jackets were a huge thing this year! Many of my brides sported cute custom jackets throughout their whole engagement! Our favorite was Chelseas black fringe jacket with her new name “Mrs.Sundling” painted of the back courtesy of Handsome Love Calligraphy! Maybe I need to get myself a Promise Event Planners jacket?

Neon Signs: Neon signs were everywhere this year and will continue to be well into next year! These adorable little signs are completely customizable and can be used again after your wedding in your marital home! Our bride Helen actually makes these custom signs with her company Flashing Neon Signs and had them above her head table and in several other places around the reception!

Bag Piper: Everyone loves an out of the box music choice for their wedding! Kate’s mom hired a bag piper to surprise the couple as their recessional music! There was a small walk from the ceremony to the cocktail hour and this amazing bag piper lead the way for guests from one location to the other.

Personal Charcuterie Boards: This was my favorite food detail this year! Molly and Danny loved cheese and wanted their guests to sample some Colorado meats and cheeses along with their starter salad. One of my favorite catering companies, Footers Catering, came up with this adorable idea of giving each guest their own wooden charcuterie board. Is your mouth watering or is that just me?

Virtual Reality Introvert Corner: For some guests, it’s not their goal to spend the whole night tearing up the dance floor. Huyen and Joshua knew that some of their guests would not be interested in dancing, so they created a virtual reality set up and lounge for their introverted guests. Everyone loved it and it gave everyone a chill space to hangout and still have fun!

The Tear Jerkers: Kourtney and Tanners wedding was my most cried at wedding this year (I cry at every wedding, but this was something else)! Kourtneys father was a Denver police officer that was killed in the line of duty. Kourtney wanted to make sure that her fathers presence was felt throughout the day so she did several things throughout her wedding day to remember him. Kourtney’s mom walked her daughter down the aisle with two officers walking behind her since her father couldn’t. At the alter Kourtney and Tanner took a shot of Patron, Her dads favorite drink! To really top off all my tears during what would typically be the father daughter dance Kourtney and her mom started the dance and then 8 members of the Denver Police Department took turns cutting in to dance with the bride. This wedding was on all the local news stations as well as The Today Show because it was so impactful! This night was so special!

Dance Floor Props: Need a way to spice up your dance floor? Add in a fun prop like glow sticks or light up tambourines to really get the party going! I always love passing these out to guests because it gives the whole party a new life!

Wedding Ideas that will WOW Your Guests

Wedding Ideas that will WOW Your Guests

Wedding Ideas that will WOW Your Guests

Having Your Guests Served as Soon as They Arrive: Champagne or a little snack pre ceremony will have your guests feeling well taken care of and saying wow! There is something so purposeful about anticipating the needs and wants of your guests before they even know they had them!

Adding a Lounge: Your older guests will thank you once the band starts playing and all they want to do is sit down and catch up with family. People love the comfort of a lounge and how it makes you feel like your just sitting in the comfort of your own living room!

An Installation: When you see a good installation it makes your eyes wider and your mouth literally drop. How is that hanging like that? How many flowers is that? What is that even made out of? If you opt for an installation your guests will NOTICE it and will definitely LOVE it.

Amazing Food: Wedding food, like Airplane food, gets a bad rep! Serve your guests a meal they will never forget. That can be an 8 course wine pairing menu, a food truck, a hand rolled sushi station or a damnnnn good piece of pizza or even barbecue. You want your guests to be gushing over the food well into the night…maybe even we’ll into your first anniversary!

A Photo Op: Because if it’s not on instagram did it even happen? Set up a designated space for your guests to take photos and remember your special day. This could be a really impactful ceremony set up or a special wall set up in your reception!

Kate & Bryce's South Does Colorado Wedding at the Grand Hyatt Vail

Kate and Bryce were a Texas couple that found me on Instagram. Kate and I immediately fell in love over the phone because who couldn’t love her strong southern accent? Kate had selected the Grand Hyatt Vail for her wedding without even visiting the space first, she just knew! On this couples special day they opted for a first look on the top of Vail Mountain and mannn did the photos by Kelsey Booth Photography come out perfect! Bryce brought a bottle of champagne up the mountain to celebrate with his future wife. After their first look they rode down the gondola together (alone without photographers) for some extra alone time! The design for this wedding was stunning with colors of dusty blue, ivory, and soft blush pinks! For flowers, which were created by Anthia Designs, Kate wanted an on the ground half circle arch and floral lined aisle that made the space look like the flowers were sprouting up around guests and the couple. It turned out absolutely perfect! The couple exchanged vows on the ceremony lawn right next to the rushing river. For recessional music the brides mother surprised the couple with a bag piper that lead the guests from the ceremony to cocktail hour with his traditional Irish tunes. For dinner the couple had stations which served some of their favorite food like a macaroni and cheese bar and a build your own potato bar (Complete with purple potatoes that I’ve never seen before). Their cake, created by Babycakes Steamboat, simply showcased the Colorado mountains in fondant. The cake topper was the brides grandmothers that every grandchild had used at their wedding since (complete with crusted icing from all the past cakes. So cute and personal! For their dance party the newlyweds had me handout light up tamborines to all their guests and they had such a blast with them! Their wedding day ended on a high not with a private last dance for the bride and groom, breakfast burritos provided by the brides aunt and a cutesy sparkler send off! Kate and Bryce wanted to bring the south to the Colorado mountains, and oh man did they throw one hell of a party!

How to Choose a Wedding Venue

How to Choose a Wedding Venue

Choosing the perfect venue can be a totally terrifying task! Here are a few tips from us about how to pick the most perfect wedding venue for you, your partner and your guests:

Is it in your budget? This is huge. Before getting started on finding your perfect venue you need to know how much money you can spend on a venue. You will most likely spend a large chunk of your budget on your venue (especially if they are also providing food and beverage service). Start a budget (or have your planner do it for you) before venue shopping so you know exactly if a venue is within your budget or not.

Does it Logistically Make Sense? Will the day run smoothly or feel broken up and choppy? The flow of the day is critical to selecting a venue. How close is the ceremony to cocktail hour and the cocktail hour to the reception space? Having all of these places close to one another make your day feel smooth and easy! Even if you decide to do your ceremony and reception in two different locations, think about potentially providing transportation for guests so your guests still feel like the day flows well.

Are there hotels nearby for guests to conveniently stay? If most of your guests are traveling in from out of state, think about the different hotel options that are near by. You want your guests to have a few different priced hotel option to fit their needs to make sure there are options close to your venue that make sense. Also think about that access to Air BnB’s and rental properties!

Whats The Time Frame? Ask the venue when you can get into the venue and when you have to leave! Do you have a crew who will want to party late into the night? Then a 9 PM end time is not for you! Ask this question early on and ask if additional hours can be purchased!

Can You Picture Yourself Getting Married There and Will You Look Back on it Fondly? Many couples go back and visit their venues for their anniversaries and you want it to be a place you really love and want to revisit! When you visit each venue take a moment alone or with your partner and really think about if you can picture your special day there. If you get those butterfly feelings in your stomach this just might be the right venue for you!
